LED light therapy in Lancaster

LED light therapy is a non-invasive treatment that can be booked by itself or used to support other skin treatments. This page explains how it works, what it can and cannot do, and how it differs from IPL.

Quick answer

LED light therapy is a non-ablative, low-level light treatment that uses selected wavelengths of light to influence how skin cells respond, without removing the skin's surface. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics in Lancaster it is used on its own or alongside other treatments, including in selected acne and skin-recovery programmes, after a consultation.

What is LED light therapy?

LED light therapy is a low-level light treatment, sometimes called photobiomodulation. It uses light-emitting diodes to deliver selected wavelengths of light to the skin.

It can be used as a standalone treatment or alongside other treatments at the clinic, such as facials, or as part of a skin-recovery plan. It is not IPL and it is not a resurfacing laser.

How LED light therapy works

Different wavelengths of light are used to influence the way skin cells respond. The treatment does not ablate, or remove, any of the skin's surface.

Your practitioner selects the light programme for your skin and your concern. LED does not heat the skin in the way resurfacing lasers do, which is one reason it is often used to support other treatments.

What LED light therapy can help with

LED may be considered, on its own or as part of a plan, for the concerns below. It is a supportive treatment and it does not cure acne or any skin condition.

  • Acne, as part of a selected acne programme
  • Facial redness
  • Dull skin
  • Dehydrated skin

Is LED light therapy right for me?

LED may suit you if you would like a non-invasive treatment to support your skin, or if you are having another treatment and your practitioner feels LED could fit into your plan. It is not a replacement for medical care where that is needed.

Your practitioner will ask about your skin, your medical history and any medication you take before recommending it, and will explain whether LED, IPL, a facial or another option best suits your concern.

What happens during an LED session

Your first step is a consultation, where your practitioner looks at your skin and explains whether LED is suitable and how it could fit alongside any other treatments.

During the session, you lie back and the LED panel is positioned over the treatment area. You will be given eye protection to wear while the light is on, and your practitioner will check on your comfort.

Downtime and aftercare

How your skin looks afterwards can vary, particularly if LED is combined with another treatment at the same visit, so we do not quote a fixed recovery time. Your practitioner will explain what to expect.

Your aftercare will be based on these principles:

  • Follow the written aftercare advice you are given
  • Protect your skin from the sun
  • Follow any separate aftercare for other treatments you had at the same visit
  • Contact the clinic if anything concerns you

How LED differs from IPL and resurfacing lasers

LED, IPL and resurfacing lasers all use light, but they work in different ways and have different roles. LED is non-ablative and does not heat the skin in the way resurfacing lasers do, and it is a separate treatment from IPL.

Results

LED does not promise a particular outcome, and it is not a cure for acne or any skin condition. How your skin responds depends on your concern and your overall plan, and your practitioner will talk you through what is realistic.

Where we show before and after photographs, they are of real clients, not stock or manufacturer images.

Frequently asked questions

LED light therapy is a low-level light treatment, also called photobiomodulation, that uses selected wavelengths of light to influence how skin cells respond. It is non-ablative, so it does not remove the skin's surface. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics in Lancaster it is used on its own or alongside other treatments, including in selected acne and skin-recovery programmes.

LED is non-invasive and does not involve needles or removing any of the skin's surface. How it feels still varies from person to person, and your practitioner will explain what to expect before your session. You will wear eye protection while the light is on.

There is no fixed number that suits everyone. LED is often used as part of a wider plan, so the number of sessions depends on your concern, your skin and any other treatments you are having. Your practitioner will recommend a plan at consultation and review it with you as you go.

We do not quote a fixed downtime, because how your skin looks afterwards can vary, especially if LED is combined with another treatment. Your practitioner will explain what to expect for you. You will be given aftercare to follow, including protecting your skin from the sun.

Suitability depends on your skin, your medical history and any medication you take, all of which your practitioner will ask about at consultation. LED is not a substitute for medical treatment of acne or other skin conditions, so you may be advised to see your GP if you need medical care. If LED is not right for you, your practitioner will suggest an alternative.

The price depends on whether you book LED on its own, as a series of sessions or alongside another treatment. Current prices are listed on our prices page, and your practitioner will confirm the cost of your plan at your consultation in Lancaster.
