Microblading
Quick answer
Microblading uses a fine bladed tool to draw individual, hair-like strokes through the brow, creating a natural, fuller shape for clients who already have some brow hair. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics pigment is matched to your natural brow colour so the strokes blend with your own hair for a soft, realistic finish.
What is microblading?
Microblading is a hair-stroke technique that implants colour into the skin using a fine bladed tool rather than a permanent makeup machine, creating wispy strokes that mimic individual brow hairs throughout the brow.
It is a good choice for clients who already have some natural brow hair and want to add shape and fullness. Pigment is matched to your natural hair colour so the fine strokes blend with your existing brow hair for a natural, fuller look.
As with our other brow techniques, microblading tends to soften a little faster than shaded techniques such as ombre brows, so touch-ups may be needed sooner to keep the strokes crisp.
Because each stroke is drawn by hand rather than shaded, microblading rewards a steady, experienced technician, and the direction and length of every stroke is planned to follow your natural brow growth pattern rather than a generic template.
Who suits microblading?
Microblading suits clients who already have some brow hair and want to fill gaps, add shape or create a fuller silhouette while keeping a natural, hair-like finish.
- Some existing natural brow hair
- Wanting to add shape and fullness rather than a fully shaded look
- A preference for a fine, hair-stroke finish
- Normal to dry skin, where fine strokes hold their crispness best
What happens during your microblading appointment
Your appointment begins with an in-depth consultation to choose your brow colour and shape, followed by numbing of the area for comfort.
A template is drawn based on your natural brow shape and face for you to approve, then individual hair strokes are drawn through the brow to mimic your natural hair pattern and create your desired effect.
Because each stroke is placed individually, a microblading appointment takes a little longer than a purely shaded technique, and your practitioner will pace the session so the strokes stay fine and consistent rather than rushed.
Healing and aftercare for microblading
Microblading heals in the same way as our other brow treatments, over roughly four weeks. Strokes typically look sharper immediately after treatment, then soften as the skin heals, before resurfacing to their true colour and definition.
During the first fortnight, avoid sun, sunbeds, saunas, heavy sweating, swimming and picking at the area, keep the brows dry other than gentle cleaning, and apply the aftercare lotion provided as directed.
A touch-up appointment is generally included to refine the strokes once healing is complete.

Frequently asked questions
Microblading works best when there is at least some natural brow hair to blend the strokes with. If you have little to no natural hair, a shaded technique such as ombre brows or hair stroke powder blush brows may suit you better, and this is discussed at your consultation.
Fine hair-stroke techniques like microblading can soften a little faster than shaded techniques, particularly on oily skin, so more frequent top-ups may be recommended to keep the strokes crisp.
Yes, that is the aim. Pigment is matched to your natural brow colour and the strokes follow the direction of your existing hair growth, so the finished result blends with your own brows.
Results are semi-permanent and typically fade gradually over roughly one to three years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle, with a top-up appointment recommended to keep the strokes defined.
The area is numbed before treatment, so most clients describe the sensation as mild pressure or scratching rather than pain. Sensitivity varies between individuals, and your practitioner will check you are comfortable throughout.
The number of strokes depends on how much natural hair you already have and the shape agreed at your consultation, rather than a fixed count that applies to every client. Your practitioner builds up strokes gradually to match your natural growth pattern.
