Brows

Quick answer

Brow permanent makeup uses fine pigment strokes or soft shading to create fuller, more defined brows that hold their shape through the day. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics in Lancaster, techniques range from soft ombre shading to fine hair-stroke work, chosen at consultation to suit your natural brow hair, skin type and the look you want.

What is brow permanent makeup?

Your brows help balance and frame the whole face, but achieving a natural, symmetrical shape with makeup alone can be time-consuming and difficult to repeat every day. Brow permanent makeup uses specialist pigment, implanted with fine needles, to create fuller, more defined brows that stay in place through washing, swimming and exercise.

We offer several brow techniques, from soft, shaded ombre brows to fine hair-stroke work such as microblading, hair stroke 3D brows and hair stroke powder blush brows. Each is suited to a different skin type, natural brow density and finished look, and the right one for you is chosen together at your consultation.

Every treatment starts with an in-depth consultation. We look at the natural shape of your face and existing brow hair, then draw a template so you can see and approve the proposed shape before any pigment is applied.

Who is brow permanent makeup suitable for?

Brow permanent makeup suits people with sparse, uneven, over-plucked or fair natural brows, as well as anyone who simply wants a low-maintenance, consistently defined brow shape. Certain techniques work better on certain skin types, for example hair-stroke methods can be harder to achieve cleanly on oily or textured skin, which is one of the reasons a consultation matters.

As with all permanent makeup, not everyone is a suitable candidate, and this is checked during your consultation. You are under no obligation to continue with treatment if, on the day, you feel it is not right for you.

  • Little to no natural brow hair
  • Sparse, uneven or over-plucked brows
  • Fair or very light natural brow hair
  • Wanting a low-maintenance daily routine

What to expect from your appointment

At your consultation we discuss your expectations and choose the brow colour together, taking into account your natural brow colour and the tone of your skin, hair and eyes. The treatment area is numbed to keep the appointment as comfortable as possible.

We draw a template based on the shape of your face and your natural brows, so the finished result suits you as an individual, before mimicking natural brow hair or shading to build your chosen look.

Healing and aftercare

The four weeks after treatment are an important healing period. Brows often look a little darker immediately afterwards, then appear to fade as the top layer of skin flakes away, before the true colour resurfaces once healing is complete. Some redness, mild tenderness, itching or light flaking is normal during this time.

For the first fortnight, avoid sunbathing, sunbeds, saunas, heavy sweating, swimming, facials and picking at the area, and keep the brows dry other than gentle cleaning with cooled boiled water. An aftercare lotion is applied as directed to support even healing.

A touch-up appointment is generally included, to fill in any gaps or make small adjustments once your brows have fully healed. Everyone's skin behaves a little differently, so some unevenness before this visit is normal.

Frequently asked questions

Ombre brows use soft shading for a translucent, pencil-brow finish, while microblading and hair stroke techniques use fine strokes to mimic individual brow hairs. Hair stroke powder blush brows combine strokes with a soft shaded background. Which suits you best depends on your skin type, natural brow hair and the finish you want, and this is discussed at your consultation.

Yes, that is the aim of every technique. Pigment is matched to your natural brow colour, and the shape is drawn and approved with you before any treatment begins, based on the natural shape of your face and your existing brow hair.

Results are semi-permanent. Brow colour typically fades gradually over roughly one to three years depending on the technique chosen, your skin type and lifestyle, and a periodic top-up helps maintain the look.

Most people return to normal activities the same day, though the treated area needs around four weeks to fully heal. During this time you should avoid sun exposure, swimming, saunas and picking at the brows, following the aftercare advice you are given.

The right technique depends on how much natural brow hair you have, your skin type, and the finish you prefer, softer and shaded or fine and hair-like. Your practitioner will talk through the options with you at your consultation and recommend what will suit you best.

Yes, this is one of the most common reasons clients choose brow permanent makeup. A template is drawn and agreed with you before treatment, so any unevenness in your natural brow shape can be softened in the finished design.
