Ombre Brows
Quick answer
Ombre brows use soft, shaded strokes to build a smudged, pencil-brow finish that fades gently rather than sitting as a hard line. It is a popular choice for little to no natural brow hair, or for oily and uneven skin where crisp hair-stroke techniques are harder to achieve, and every colour and shape is agreed with you first.
What are ombre brows?
Ombre brows are created using a series of fast, light shading motions rather than individual hair strokes. The result is a soft, smudged, pencil-brow effect with a translucent, sheer finish at the front of the brow that gradually deepens towards the tail.
This subtle use of shadow creates the illusion of fuller hair. Once healed, the shading blends with any natural brow hair you already have, giving your brows a soft, complete finish rather than a hard, drawn-on look.
Because the effect relies on shading rather than individual strokes, ombre brows also tend to hold their finish more evenly on skin types where crisp hair-stroke lines can blur or spread, which is one of the reasons it is one of our most requested brow techniques.
Who suits ombre brows?
Ombre brows are a particularly good choice for clients who have little to no natural brow hair and want a soft, fuller look. They also suit clients with oily or uneven skin, where hair-stroke techniques can be harder to keep crisp and can blur more quickly.
- Little to no natural brow hair
- Oily or combination skin
- Wanting a soft, shaded finish rather than defined hair strokes
- Previous hair-stroke work that has blurred or faded unevenly
What happens during your ombre brow appointment
As with all our brow treatments, you will have an in-depth consultation first, where we choose your brow colour and shape together, taking into account your natural colouring and face shape. The area is numbed before we begin.
We draw a template of the proposed shape for you to see and approve before starting. The shading is then built up gradually, so the depth of colour can be judged as we go.
Sessions are unhurried, since building soft, even shading takes more care than a single pass of colour. Your practitioner will check in with you throughout to make sure the depth and shape are heading in the right direction before finishing the appointment.
Healing and aftercare for ombre brows
Ombre brows follow the same healing process as our other brow treatments. The colour will look a little darker at first, fade as the surface skin heals, then resurface to its intended shade over about four weeks.
For the first fortnight, keep the brows dry other than gentle cleaning, avoid sun, sunbeds, saunas, heavy sweating and picking, and apply the aftercare lotion provided as directed.
A touch-up appointment is generally included, to refine the shading once healing is complete.
