Lash Enhancement

Quick answer

Lash enhancement uses a fine line through the lash roots to create the look of fuller, darker lashes with a soft, natural finish. It is a popular everyday choice for anyone who wants subtle definition rather than a visible line, and colour and depth are agreed with you at consultation.

What is lash enhancement?

Lash enhancement creates the look of fuller lashes by implanting a fine line of pigment through the roots of the lashes, rather than drawing a visible line above them. The effect is subtle rather than bold.

This is perfect for those who want a natural, fuller look to the base of the lash line for everyday wear, without the appearance of wearing obvious eyeliner.

Because the line sits so close to the lash roots, lash enhancement is often the first eyeliner treatment people try if they are new to permanent makeup, as the change to your everyday look is gentle rather than dramatic.

Who suits lash enhancement?

Lash enhancement suits anyone who wants their lashes to look naturally fuller and darker, without a defined line. It is often chosen by people who do not usually wear eyeliner but want subtle extra definition.

  • Wanting a natural, everyday look
  • A preference for subtle definition over a visible line
  • Sparse or fair lashes that could use extra depth
  • Not usually a daily eyeliner wearer

What to expect from your appointment

As with our other eyeliner treatments, your appointment starts with an in-depth consultation to choose your colour and discuss the level of definition you would like. The area is numbed with a pre-numbing cream before treatment begins, and pigment is implanted in a fine line through the lash roots.

Because the line sits so close to the lashes, your practitioner works carefully and unhurriedly to keep it even along both eyes, checking symmetry with you before the appointment is finished.

Healing and aftercare

As with our other eyeliner treatments, some redness, swelling and tenderness around the eyelids is normal for the first few days, along with lashes sticking together, particularly overnight, and mild dryness or itching.

For the first fortnight, avoid contact lenses, eye makeup close to the lash line, swimming, sunbeds and direct sun on the area, and any lash or brow treatments close to your enhancement. A soothing balm is provided to support healing.

A control appointment is generally included within the first few months, to even out any unevenness once your eyes have fully healed.

Frequently asked questions

Lash enhancement sits through the roots of the lashes for a soft, natural fuller look, while classic eyeliner gives a solid, visible line just above the lash line. Lash enhancement is the more subtle of the two.

No, the aim is a natural, fuller-lash effect rather than the appearance of a drawn-on line, which is why it is popular with people who do not usually wear eyeliner.

Results are semi-permanent and typically fade gradually over roughly one to three years, depending on your skin type and lifestyle, with a control or top-up appointment recommended to keep the definition looking fresh.

Yes, many clients choose it as a gentle introduction because the effect is subtle and close to how their eyes already look, before deciding whether to try a more defined eyeliner technique in future.

Yes, once healed, lash enhancement can generally be built on with a fuller eyeliner technique if you decide you would like more definition, though this is assessed individually at consultation.
