Eyeliner
Quick answer
Eyeliner permanent makeup uses fine pigment along the lash line to create definition that lasts, from a soft lash-enhancing line to a fuller, more defined flick. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics in Lancaster, the right technique and shape are chosen together at your consultation to suit your eye shape and the look you want.
What is eyeliner permanent makeup?
Eyes are often described as the window to the soul, and eyeliner permanent makeup is designed to give them lasting definition without the daily hassle of drawing a line that stays even on both sides. Specialist pigment is implanted along the lash line to create a look that will not smudge through the day.
We offer a range of eyeliner techniques, from a subtle lash enhancement that thickens the base of the lash line, through a classic defined eyeliner, to a fuller line with a flick. Each is chosen and refined together with you at consultation.
Because the eye area is sensitive, we always use a pre-numbing cream and take particular care when working close to the eyes.
Who is eyeliner permanent makeup suitable for?
Eyeliner permanent makeup suits anyone who wears eyeliner daily and wants to save time, as well as people who find liquid or pencil liner difficult to apply evenly, wear glasses or contact lenses, or simply want their eyes to look defined first thing in the morning.
- Wanting to save time on a daily makeup routine
- Finding it difficult to apply eyeliner evenly by hand
- Wanting subtly fuller-looking lashes or a defined line that will not smudge
- A preference for a soft, natural enhancement or a bolder, more defined look
What to expect from your appointment
You will have an in-depth consultation where we discuss your expectations and choose your eyeliner colour together, based on your natural skin tone and eye colour. A template is drawn onto the eye area so you can see the proposed look before treatment begins.
The treatment is mildly uncomfortable given the sensitivity of the eye area, though a pre-numbing cream is used throughout to keep this as comfortable as possible.
Healing and aftercare
The area around the eye is sensitive, so you may feel some discomfort and mild swelling immediately after treatment. This usually settles within a couple of hours, though the next day your upper lid may look a little swollen, similar to having cried, which is nothing to worry about and typically settles within four to six hours.
You will be given full aftercare advice and a soothing balm. For around two weeks, avoid contact lenses, eye makeup, swimming pools, sunbeds, direct sun on the eye area and any lash or brow treatments close to the enhancement.
A control or touch-up appointment is generally included, to be booked within the first few months to fine-tune any unevenness once the eyes have fully healed.

Frequently asked questions
Lash enhancement adds a fine line through the lashes for a subtle, fuller look, classic eyeliner gives a solid line just above the lash line similar to everyday makeup, and fuller eyeliner with a flick builds a bolder line with an optional flick. Which suits you is discussed at your consultation.
The eye area is sensitive, so most clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. A pre-numbing cream is used throughout, and your practitioner will take particular care while working close to your eyes.
Some swelling and mild discomfort around the eyes is normal for the first day or two, and your upper lids may look slightly puffy the next day. This usually settles within a few hours and is a normal part of healing.
Results are semi-permanent and typically fade gradually over roughly one to three years, depending on the technique, your skin type and lifestyle, with a control or top-up appointment recommended to keep the line looking crisp.
You should avoid contact lenses for around two weeks after treatment while the area heals, wearing glasses instead where possible. Your practitioner will confirm the timeframe and give you full aftercare guidance after your appointment.
This depends on personal preference. Lash enhancement suits those who want a subtle, natural look, classic eyeliner suits daily eyeliner wearers, and fuller eyeliner with a flick suits those wanting a bolder finish. Your practitioner can talk through which suits your eye shape at consultation.
Every design is drawn and agreed with you individually, taking your natural eye shape into account, rather than applying a single template to every client. This is discussed and shown to you before any pigment is applied.
