Quick answer
Lip permanent makeup adds soft, lasting colour and definition to the lips, from a subtle everyday tint to a bolder, fuller colour. At Naomi Waite Aesthetics in Lancaster, your lip shape and colour are planned together at consultation, working within your natural lip line unless slight correction is needed.
What is lip permanent makeup?
Lip permanent makeup brightens and polishes the lips, which is especially popular for anyone who has lost natural colour through ageing or simply wants better lip colour around the clock. A wide variety of tints and effects are available, from bold colour and youthful fuller-looking lips, through gentle shaping, to a soft, simple definition tint.
You will have an in-depth consultation where we discuss your expectations and choose your lip colour together, based on the tone of your natural skin and lips. A template is created, staying within the natural contour of your lip shape except where slight correction or symmetry is needed.
Who is lip permanent makeup suitable for?
Lip permanent makeup suits anyone who wants their lips to look more defined and coloured without daily lipstick, as well as those wanting to soften uneven lip colour or add the appearance of fuller lips.
- Wanting lasting lip colour without daily lipstick
- Lip colour that has faded with age
- Uneven natural lip tone
- Wanting the appearance of a fuller, more defined lip shape
What to expect from your appointment
Your lip colour and effect are chosen together at consultation. A template of the proposed shape is drawn for you to approve, and the treatment is carried out using pharmaceutical-grade pigments designed to gently infuse colour into the top layer of the lips.
Healing and aftercare
Your lips will feel sensitive and sore after treatment, and may look slightly swollen and heavily coloured for up to two weeks. This swelling soon settles, and the colour will fade during healing before blossoming into its true shade over the following four to six weeks.
You will be given full aftercare advice and a soothing balm. For the first few days, avoid spicy, salty or strongly coloured food and drink, use a straw where possible, and avoid kissing for around five days to reduce the risk of infection.
A touch-up appointment is generally included, to fine-tune your colour and shape once healing is complete.

Frequently asked questions
Lip blush gives a gentle, sheer tint, while full lip colour uses a stronger, fuller colour for a more made-up look. Both are planned together with you at consultation based on the finish you prefer.
The template generally stays within your natural lip contour, so the shape looks like your own lips, just more defined. Slight correction can be discussed at consultation if you would like a little extra symmetry or fullness.
Lips are sensitive, so most clients feel some soreness during and after treatment. Numbing is used to keep the appointment as comfortable as possible, and your practitioner will explain what to expect.
Results are semi-permanent and typically fade gradually over roughly one to three years, depending on the technique, your skin type and lifestyle, with a touch-up appointment recommended to keep the colour looking fresh.
If you have ever had a cold sore, treatment can occasionally trigger an outbreak, so preventative anti-viral medication is often recommended beforehand. This is discussed at your consultation so it can be planned for in advance.
Yes, slight correction or added symmetry can be built into your template where needed, though the overall aim is to enhance your natural lip shape rather than create a very different one.
Once fully healed, your lips should feel completely normal. Any tightness, sensitivity or swelling is part of the healing process in the first couple of weeks and settles as the treated area recovers.
